Maida Pearce

Maida Pearce’s path to the clean energy industry was not a straight line, but one paved by her diverse experiences. After serving 10 years in the Army, Maida pursued an environmental science degree at the University of Colorado, focusing on GIS. She then leveraged her government experience, working her way up from immigration constituent advocacy to becoming the state director for a Colorado state senator. Now, Maida brings her unique blend of military, political, and environmental expertise to her role in public and community engagement at Vestas, a leading wind energy company.

Maida’s passion for renewable energy sparked during her six years stationed in Germany, where wind turbines dotted the landscape alongside grazing sheep. “It made so much logical sense,” she recalls. That early exposure to sustainable energy practices inspired her to pursue environmental science at the University of Colorado, laying the foundation for her career in wind energy.

Transitioning to a role at Vestas was both an exciting challenge and a steep learning curve. “It’s about making sure people see the benefits of these projects beyond just the turbines,” Maida explains. “We’re not just building wind farms; we’re investing in these communities.”

A key part of Maida’s work involves addressing concerns and misconceptions about wind energy. She recalls an encounter with a woman who was on the fence about signing a lease but wanted to respect her father’s wishes. After their conversation, Maida suggested they speak to the developer to explore her options, something the woman had never considered. Once the developer reviewed her site plan and found no issues, they moved to change the turbine’s position. The woman was shocked but overjoyed that she could fulfill both her father’s wishes and her own. This positive experience made her change her stance on wind energy.

For Maida, these moments of connection are the heart of her work. “People don’t always realize how much input they can have. I encourage them to ask questions and advocate for themselves. It’s their land, their community, and they have a voice.”

Maida’s experiences have profoundly shaped her perspective on clean energy as a national security priority. “During my military service, I witnessed firsthand the high cost of energy dependency,” she explains. “By investing in and generating energy from wind and solar, we can reduce our reliance on foreign resources. This is not just about energy independence; it’s about ensuring the safety and security of our nation and our service members.”

Her work at Vestas’ North American development arm, Steelhead Americas, reflects this larger vision, bridging the gap between global challenges and local impacts. By fostering trust and understanding, Maida is helping communities embrace wind energy as a path to a sustainable future.

For Maida, the most rewarding part of her job is seeing the tangible benefits wind energy brings to people’s lives. “It’s not just about the turbines or the power they generate—it’s about the jobs created, the community programs supported, and the trust built along the way,” she says.

Through her work, Maida Pearce is proving that renewable energy isn’t just about technology—it’s about people. And as she continues to help communities benefit from wind power, her passion and dedication remain a driving force behind Vestas’ mission to power a sustainable future.
